A tragic incident occurred at the Anugrah Narayan Road Railway Station in Aurangabad, Bihar, leaving a passenger critically injured. On March 7, 2026, a disabled man named Rajkumar Pandey met with a severe accident while attempting to board a train. The incident resulted in the passenger losing his right leg after slipping on the platform.

How did the accident happen and what is the victim’s condition?

Rajkumar Pandey, a resident of Kharanti in Obra, was at the station to catch a train. While trying to board, he lost his balance and fell in the gap. The Railway Police (GRP/RPF) present at the station responded immediately and pulled him out, but his right leg was severed in the process. He was rushed to Sadar Hospital in Aurangabad for emergency care.

Doctors at Sadar Hospital assessed his condition as critical due to the severity of the injury and blood loss. After initial stabilization, the medical team referred him to a higher trauma center for advanced surgical treatment. The local police have started documenting the case to understand the exact sequence of events.

What are the railway compensation rules for such incidents?

Under the Railway Accidents and Untoward Incidents (Compensation) Rules applicable in 2026, this event falls under the ‘Untoward Incident’ category. If the victim is found to be a bona fide passenger with a valid ticket, the Railway Claims Tribunal (RCT) usually provides statutory compensation.

  • Permanent Disability: For the loss of a limb, compensation can go up to ₹8,00,000.
  • Ex-Gratia: The Railway Administration typically releases immediate relief ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 for grievous injuries to handle urgent medical needs.
  • Liability: Under Section 124A, compensation is generally payable on a ‘no-fault’ basis, meaning the railway is liable even if the passenger accidentally slipped, provided they held a valid travel authority.
