The daily struggle with traffic jams at railway crossings in Bihar is set to end soon. In a significant move, the construction of 83 Railway Overbridges (ROBs) has been formally approved for the current financial year. This decision came after a high-level meeting between the Bihar Government and Indian Railways officials on Saturday. The project aims to improve connectivity and ensure smoother travel across the state by removing bottlenecks at busy crossings.
What are the details of the new project?
The government has planned a massive overhaul of the railway infrastructure to eliminate level crossings completely. Out of a total proposal for 223 locations, 83 ROBs have received the green signal for immediate work. Officials confirmed that the Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for another 110 bridges will be processed in the next financial year (2026–27). This initiative is part of the ‘Suluk Samparkta’ mission, which targets reducing travel time to Patna from any district to just 3.5 hours.
Which districts will benefit and who is funding it?
Unlike previous agreements where the state and railways shared costs, the Indian Railways will now fund and execute these projects using its own resources. This change removes the financial burden from the Bihar government. The priority areas for construction include heavy-traffic zones in various districts. Key officials like Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh and ECR General Manager Chhatrasal Singh reviewed the progress to ensure land acquisition and utility shifting happen without delay.
