Ambala Railway Division has approached the higher authorities to seek permission for running three special trains from Chandigarh. This initiative is being taken to manage the significant increase in passenger volume expected during the summer vacation months. Travelers on the Chandigarh to Mumbai and Bihar-UP routes have reported extreme difficulty in obtaining confirmed tickets for their journeys.
Why is Ambala Division demanding these special trains?
The demand for additional trains is driven by the massive summer rush that makes travel difficult for common passengers. Currently, the pressure on routes connecting Chandigarh to major cities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is at its peak. The proposed plan includes one train for the Mumbai route and two others specifically for the UP and Bihar sectors. If approved, these trains will help clear the long waiting lists and provide much-needed relief to thousands of people who are planning their home visits or vacations.
Overview of summer special train arrangements
Northern Railway has already shared plans to operate 26 summer special trains across various divisions to facilitate travel. While the approval for the specific Chandigarh trains is awaited, several other measures are already in place for the season. For instance, the duration of the Sri Ganganagar to Samastipur special train has been extended until the end of June. Additionally, specialized services like the pilgrimage train from Ambala to Ayodhya have been started to cater to specific passenger needs during this period.
