Dhanbad Division Passenger Income and Rankings
Dhanbad division has secured the 46th position nationally with a passenger income of ₹452.81 crore. In comparison, Delhi leads in passenger income, followed by Mumbai Central in second place and another division in third. Notable train services, including the Dhanbad-Jammu Tavi Garib Rath to Delhi and the Dhanbad-Nasik Road Garib Rath to Mumbai, are operational, with plans for additional routes being discussed. DRM Kamal Kishore Sinha indicated efforts to establish dedicated trains from Dhanbad to the top 20 cities experiencing high passenger demand, with ongoing discussions aimed at optimizing routes for travelers.
Infrastructure Development and Upgrades
The Dhanbad division is also undergoing significant infrastructure upgrades, receiving ₹300 crore for the laying of two new railway lines under a multi-tracking project. The detailed planning for this project is underway, which will enhance connectivity from Andal to Son Nagar, including modifications to the station building. Concurrently, the existing DC line will remain operational while work progresses on an alternative rail route between Dhanbad and Chandrapura. The construction of tracks and rail bridges between Matari and Telo is actively being pursued to facilitate this new route.
Passenger Traffic and Revenue Growth
The Dhanbad Railway Division experienced substantial passenger traffic in January, with a record 21,76,000 passengers traveling during the month. This figure marks an increase of 2,86,000 compared to January of the previous year, which saw 18,90,000 passengers. The revenue from passenger income also saw a notable rise, totaling ₹41.81 crore in January, reflecting a 23.01% increase from ₹33.99 crore in the same month last year. Additionally, February is anticipated to have three significant dates for Amrit bathing, likely contributing to further passenger traffic during the month.
