Residents of Gonda district are set to witness significant infrastructure improvements as Indian Railways begins work on three new underpasses. Located on the Mankapur-Gonda rail section, this project will directly benefit around 40,000 people across 36 villages by providing seamless connectivity. The project aims to solve long-standing traffic issues at railway crossings in the region and improve the daily commute for locals.
Key details of the Gonda railway underpass project
The new underpasses are being constructed at specific locations to ensure maximum accessibility for the local population. The project details include:
- Specific Sites: Masakanwa Bazaar, Patijya Buzurg, and Khamhariya
- Rail Section: Masakanwa-Babhnan rail section under the Mankapur-Gonda route
- Total Estimated Cost: Approximately 11.25 crore rupees
- Individual Cost: Around 3.74 crore rupees per underpass
- Beneficiaries: 40,000 residents living in 36 nearby villages
Official progress and project objectives
The construction work for these three underpasses was inaugurated on March 27, 2026. This development was made possible through the efforts of Union Minister of State Kirtivardhan Singh. Currently, the tender process is complete, and the actual groundwork is anticipated to commence in the coming months. The main objectives of these underpasses are to ease traffic flow, reduce the risk of accidents at crossings, and save travel time for the public. This infrastructure will specifically help school children and emergency vehicles move without being stuck at railway gates.
