The North Western Railway’s Ajmer Division has officially changed the name of the Jawai Bandh railway station in Pali district. The station is now known as Sumerpur Jawai Bandh with the new railway code SJWB. This decision follows a long-standing demand from local residents and the merchant community to link the station name with the Sumerpur Mandi area for better geographic clarity.

Why was the name of the station changed?
The primary objective behind this name modification is to provide a clear identity to the Sumerpur region and the local trade hub. Travelers and tourists visiting the Jawai Leopard Conservation area often faced confusion regarding the exact location of the station. By adding Sumerpur to the name, the railway department aims to clarify the station’s location for outsiders. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Mihir Dev confirmed that the amendment was approved by the competent authority to meet regional demands and improve passenger convenience.
Key updates and historical background for passengers
This station has a history of name changes and was originally known as Erinpura. The current transition to Sumerpur Jawai Bandh marks the third time its identity has been updated. The change was implemented after Cabinet Minister Joraram Kumawat met with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to advocate for the locals. All railway ticketing systems, including the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), are currently being updated with the new name and code.
