The Ministry of Railways has approved a significant project to transform Bhagat Ki Kothi railway station in Jodhpur into a high-tech mega railway hub and coaching terminal. With a sanctioned budget of 397.69 crore, this project aims to double the rail operation capacity of the region by 2030. Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw approved this development for his home district to modernise passenger facilities and improve train frequency.
Key features of the Bhagat Ki Kothi mega terminal project
- The number of platforms will increase from three to seven, with each platform having a length of 600 meters.
- The project includes the construction of three pit lines, two sick lines, and an 800-meter wheel lathe and drop pit line.
- A state-of-the-art yard with six pit lines will be developed to maintain 12 to 14 trains every day.
- Modern facilities like an automatic coach washing plant, water treatment plant, and a new administrative building are part of the plan.
- Passengers will have access to lifts, escalators, a modern information system, and a second entry point for easier movement.
How will this project impact Jodhpur rail operations?
This massive redevelopment is expected to be completed within two years once the construction work starts. By shifting maintenance and coaching tasks from Jodhpur City station to Bhagat Ki Kothi, the railway department will be able to manage crowds better and reduce pressure on the main city station. This shift will allow for the introduction of more trains and ensure better punctuality. Additionally, a Vande Bharat maintenance depot is also being established here, making it one of the first train set depots in India built to international standards.
