The Central Government has allocated 229.05 crore rupees for the Muzaffarpur-Katra-Aurai-Janakpur Road new railway line project. This 66.55 kilometer long rail line will connect rural areas of Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi directly to the railway network for the first time. The East Central Railway released these funds as part of a larger 511 crore package meant for regional rail development. This project aims to improve transportation for nearly 20 lakh people living in these areas.

Status of funding and project history
This project was first approved during the 2008-09 period but faced delays for many years due to lack of budget. The recent allocation of 229.05 crore rupees has finally given it the necessary push for construction. Sitamarhi MP Devesh Chandra Thakur has been actively advocating for this rail project to help the local population. Along with this project, the Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga new rail line also received 282.30 crore rupees to speed up railway expansion in the region.
