The North Central Railway (NCR) has announced a significant initiative to help passengers cope with the summer heat. Starting April 15, 2026, long-distance train passengers traveling in general coaches will receive free cold water directly at their seats. This step aims to provide relief to travelers during the peak summer months and ensures they stay hydrated throughout their journey.

How this initiative improves passenger safety and comfort
Passengers in crowded general coaches often face difficulties when trying to get down for water during short halts. There is a constant fear of losing their seats or falling victim to theft while they are away from their luggage. By providing cold water inside the coaches, the NCR is addressing these concerns directly. This method allows passengers to get drinking water without having to disembark from the train. Additionally, officials in some regions like Panipat are proposing an increase in the number of water coolers at stations to further enhance passenger facilities during the summer.
