The Northeast Railway has mobilized its resources to ensure the safe return of devotees following the recent accident in Prayagraj. The operations department has been transformed into a war room, with officers returning to headquarters and canceling their holidays to oversee the situation. In the past 48 hours, 25 empty trains have been dispatched from Gorakhpur and nearby stations, successfully transporting over two lakh devotees back to Gorakhpur and surrounding areas.

Passenger Trends and Train Operations

In response to the accident, both railway and road services have heightened their alertness. On Thursday, passenger turnout remained low, with only 150 passengers boarding special trains designated for Prayagraj. Despite the decreased number of passengers, the special trains were operated punctually. Officers have issued strict guidelines to prevent unnecessary stops for trains arriving from Prayag, ensuring a smooth and efficient transport process.

Enhanced Services for Devotees

To accommodate the increased flow of devotees, the Northeast Railway has implemented several measures. Seven special trains are scheduled to run from Banaras, Bhatni, Gorakhpur, and Chhapra to Prayagraj, Rambagh, and Jhusi. CPRO Pankaj Kumar Singh confirmed that the operational capacity has been maximized, with around 80 UTS counters and over 20 ATVMs functioning at Prayagraj Rambagh and Jhusi stations. Additionally, holding areas have been established for late-night passengers to rest before continuing their journeys. The efficient operation of trains has been facilitated by a new railway bridge over the Ganges, allowing for trains to run every 25 minutes from Jhusi and Prayagraj Rambagh stations.
