Northern Railway has announced the operation of 27 summer special trains to manage the anticipated passenger rush during the 2026 summer holidays. These trains are scheduled to run from April 15 to July 2026, providing extra capacity for travelers during the peak vacation season. The Ambala Division will play a central role, serving as a transit point for various trains from the Firozpur and Delhi divisions.
Major routes and additional train services
The Ambala Division has sought permission to launch three new special trains from Chandigarh to Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar to meet high demand. Trains from the Firozpur Division will originate from Amritsar and Jammu, while the Delhi Division will operate services from Anand Vihar Terminal. These 27 trains will help reduce the waiting lists on popular long-distance routes during the school holiday period.
Upgrades and technology-driven planning
To further assist passengers, Northern Railway will add one AC-3 Economy coach to five pairs of trains, including the Yesvantpur-Chandigarh Express and Karnataka Sampark Kranti. Senior Commercial Manager Naveen Kumar Jha stated that special trains are a regular measure to handle seasonal traffic. Indian Railways is also utilizing AI tools to track ticket search trends and adjust services based on real-time passenger demand.
