Northern Railway has decided to change the category of several trains passing through Saharanpur and other regions from Superfast to Mail and Express. This decision aims to benefit general passengers by removing the additional Superfast surcharge from their tickets. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Lucknow Division, Kuldeep Tiwari, stated that this move will make rail travel more affordable and convenient for the common man. The change applies to the Himgiri Express and several other important train services.
How will the train category change benefit passengers
The reclassification of trains like the Himgiri Express means that passengers will no longer have to pay the Superfast surcharge. This change directly reduces the total cost of the ticket for every journey. By converting these trains into the Mail and Express category, the railway department is focusing on making travel budget-friendly for frequent commuters and general passengers. Official reports suggest that this adjustment will significantly lower the travel expenses for people traveling long distances on these routes.
Key changes in train numbers and operations
Apart from the category change, Northern Railway has also updated the train numbers for several services to align with the new classification. These changes are part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and provide better service to the public. The following points highlight the main updates:
- Himgiri Express and other selected trains are now part of the Mail Express category
- New train numbers have been assigned to facilitate the transition in the ticketing system
- Passengers can check the updated fares and numbers on the official IRCTC website or at station counters
- The change is effective for trains passing through Saharanpur and the Lucknow Division
