Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav inaugurated the Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity Express on Thursday, marking a significant enhancement in rail connectivity for the Santal Pargana region. The inauguration ceremony took place via video conferencing from Delhi, with local leaders, including Rajmahal MLA Anant Ojha, present at Sahibganj station to flag off the train. This new service is designed to cater to the needs of the weaker sections of society, offering an affordable fare of only Rs 125 for a journey to Howrah.
Tejas Rajdhani Express Stoppage
In addition to the new intercity service, the Tejas Rajdhani Express has also been granted a stop at Sahibganj station. This decision is expected to enhance travel options for residents and improve access to major urban centers. Railway Minister Vaishnav highlighted the importance of this development for local commuters, emphasizing the improved connectivity that will facilitate easier travel to Howrah.
Investment and Infrastructure Development
Minister Vaishnav noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the budget allocation for Railways in Jharkhand has seen a remarkable increase of 16 times over the past decade. During this period, the state has witnessed the construction of 1200 kilometers of new railway tracks and has achieved 100% electrification. Looking ahead, the Railways plans to invest Rs 56,000 crore in further developing railway infrastructure in Jharkhand, which is anticipated to enhance communication links and generate employment opportunities in the region.
