New Railway Line from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir

The Indian Railways is initiating a new railway line project connecting Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir, which will notably pass through Punjab. This development is expected to enhance connectivity between the states involved. The project is moving forward as the company responsible has completed its survey and submitted the report to the Ambala Division Railway Manager. The process of land acquisition for this railway line will commence shortly.

Land Acquisition and Compensation

This project necessitates the acquisition of thousands of acres of land across multiple states. Landowners will be compensated at rates that are expected to be significantly higher than current market prices, which is likely to lead to an increase in land values surrounding the railway track. The Railway Board will provide the final approval for the project, after which official work can commence. Railway officials have already begun preliminary actions related to this matter.

Survey and Project Progress

The survey for the railway line was conducted by a Pune-based company over the past year, divided into three stages. Upon completion, the report has been submitted to the relevant divisions in Delhi, Ambala, and Jalandhar, with plans to lay approximately 200 km of new railway line in each division. Following land acquisition negotiations with landowners for compensation, final approval from the Railway Board will be sought before the project can move into its next phase of development.
