North Western Railway is set to transform the rail network in Rajasthan with massive projects worth 19,680 crore. General Manager Amitabh recently shared that work on 1546 kilometers of new lines, doubling, and gauge conversion is already in progress. The state has received a record budget allocation of 10,228 crore for the financial year 2026-27 to speed up these development works.
What are the major rail line projects for Rajasthan?
The Railway Board has received the Detailed Project Reports for 1340 kilometers of new rail lines. Along with this, 30 new surveys covering 2451 kilometers are being conducted to plan future routes across the state. The 800 crore Merta-Pushkar rail line project has also officially started under the direction of the Railway Ministry. Strategic border lines like Anupgarh-Khajuwala-Jaisalmer are also part of the latest planning phase.

Modernization and passenger facility updates
The North Western Railway is focusing heavily on safety and modern station facilities. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 77 stations in the zone are being redeveloped with an investment of 4100 crore. Safety is being prioritized with the Kavach system approved for 5561 kilometers of the network. Additionally, new facilities like a coach maintenance depot at Sri Ganganagar have been approved to improve train services in the region.
