The Rameswaram-Kanniyakumari Superfast Express (Train No. 22621/22622) has started its operations with modern Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches. This shift from conventional coaches to LHB rakes is part of Southern Railway’s modernization drive. The upgrade became effective on March 28, 2026, ensuring enhanced safety and comfort for all passengers during their journey.
Benefits of LHB coaches for daily travelers
LHB coaches are specifically designed for high-speed operations and offer a much higher safety standard compared to old coaches. These coaches use anti-climbing technology which prevents them from piling up during any mishap. Additionally, the interior space is more comfortable and the noise levels are significantly lower, providing a peaceful environment for travelers. Southern Railway has been standardizing several train pairs with these coaches to improve the overall passenger experience.
Updated coach composition and rake sharing details
The transition to LHB rakes also involves the rake sharing arrangement with the Rameswaram – Tirupati Express (Train No. 16780/16779). The maintenance and implementation of these new coaches were managed by the Senior Section Engineer at Rameswaram. This development is a significant step toward fleet modernization and provides a boost to the regional connectivity between major spiritual and tourist hubs.
