What’s inside:

Indian Railways is introducing UV technology to sanitize coaches, enhancing travel safety for passengers.

Indian Railways is taking a big step to make train journeys safer. They are planning to use ultra-violet (UV) rays to sanitize train coaches. This technology is already used in hospitals and for cleaning airplanes.

The Delhi rail division has successfully tested this UV technology, and now it will be tried out in other divisions under the guidance of the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO). This is part of a pilot project aimed at improving hygiene in trains.

Some trains that will use this UV technology include the New Delhi-Rani Kamalapati Shatabdi and the New Delhi-Lucknow Swarn Jayanti Express. This will help ensure that the coaches are free from germs and other harmful bacteria.

This UV sanitization machine works with remote control and can disinfect a coach in just a few minutes. Tests have shown that this method can eliminate up to 99.99% of viruses and bacteria, making it very effective and safe, as it doesn’t require human contact.

After almost a year of testing, the North Railway has submitted its findings to the Railway Board. The Board has now instructed all regional railways to adopt this UV technology for one year under RDSO’s supervision. This initiative aims to improve safety in the closed environment of trains.

Summary:

  • Indian Railways will use UV technology for sanitizing train coaches.

  • This technology has been successfully tested in the Delhi rail division.

  • Several trains are set to implement this sanitation method soon.

  • The UV machine can disinfect a coach in minutes and is very effective.

  • All regional railways have been asked to adopt this technology for a year.
