What’s inside:

Kurmi organisations are protesting for scheduled tribe status, causing major disruptions in train services across West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

Recently, Kurmi organisations have been protesting for scheduled tribe status in West Bengal, leading to serious train disruptions. Many trains have been delayed, diverted, or even cancelled, affecting passengers across the region.

The Adivasi Kurmi Samaj, which is leading these protests, has accused the police of detaining some of its leaders. Although a high court banned rail blockades in West Bengal, protests in Jharkhand have still caused significant train delays.

As a result, over 20 trains, including express services, have been affected. Some trains were cancelled, while others were diverted or short-terminated. Passengers can expect delays of up to three hours on some routes.

Officials have reported that the situation is under control, with heavy police presence in areas like Purulia, where minor clashes have occurred. Despite this, the protests have mostly remained peaceful.

The Kurmi organisations plan to continue their agitation until their demands are met. They are calling for an indefinite blockade in several districts, seeking recognition of their community and language in the Indian Constitution.

Summary:

  • Kurmi organisations are protesting for scheduled tribe status.

  • Train services are severely disrupted in West Bengal and Jharkhand.

  • Over 20 trains have faced cancellations and delays.

  • Police presence is increased in affected areas to maintain order.

  • The protests will continue until their demands are fulfilled.
