What’s inside:

This article talks about the new railway line connecting Mizoram to the Indian rail network, a significant development for the state.

Mizoram is all set to join the Indian railway network for the first time. After 11 years of hard work, the 51.38-kilometer railway line will connect Kolasib and Aizawl districts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this railway line soon.

This new railway line will enhance transportation, communication, and the economy in Mizoram. It is also crucial for security and tourism. By 2030, it aims to boost the economy and security of the Northeast region. The Prime Minister is expected to flag off the first passenger train on September 13.

The railway line will include stations like Hartaki, Konpui, Muallakhang, and Sairang. The trains will run at speeds of up to 100 km/h. This will make travel from Assam to Aizawl much easier and quicker, reducing reliance on long and difficult road journeys.

The construction of this line was quite challenging, passing through dense forests and steep hills. It features several high bridges, with one being 114 meters tall, taller than the Qutub Minar in Delhi. In total, about 23% of the railway line consists of bridges, with 45 tunnels included.

With the railway now operational, people can travel to Mizoram more conveniently and affordably. This project, which cost around 8,071 crore rupees, has been a long-term goal since 2011. Mizoram is now the fourth state in the Northeast to have a railway connection.

Summary:

  • Mizoram is connecting to the Indian railway network for the first time.

  • The new railway line is 51.38 kilometers long.

  • The Prime Minister will flag off the first train on September 13.

  • The line includes several high bridges and tunnels.

  • Mizoram is now the fourth state in the Northeast to get a railway link.
