On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train along with the Amrit Bharat Express train. The event was broadcast live at the Kishanganj Railway Station.
Officials and local representatives flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express train as it arrived. The trains that will stop at Kishanganj include routes from New Jalpaiguri to Tiruchirappalli and from Alipurduar to SMVT Bengaluru, among others.
This new service will improve connectivity between the northeast, Bihar, southern India, and western regions. The event was hosted by SS Sunil Mohan Jha, with local dignitaries present, including the District Magistrate and local MP representatives.
However, there is disappointment among the locals as the Vande Bharat sleeper train will not stop at Kishanganj. Residents expressed that having a stop at their station would have been convenient for them.
As the Vande Bharat sleeper train passed by, people waved to greet it. Nevertheless, the official program saw a lack of public attendance, with many empty chairs around.
