What’s inside:

This article discusses the ongoing fencing project along the Lonavla-Pune-Daund railway stretch aimed at reducing track trespassing incidents.

The railway stretch between Lonavla, Pune, and Daund is getting a major safety upgrade. The fencing project is expected to be finished by April next year. So far, around 92 kilometers of the total 290-kilometer stretch has been fenced off.

This project started in early 2024 as a response to the frequent trespassing incidents on the tracks that have caused many accidents. Officials believe that completing the fencing will significantly cut down these risky incidents.

Once the fencing is up, it will make it safer for everyone, especially in areas where people frequently cross the tracks. The whole project will cost about Rs 234.64 crore and includes building subways for safer crossings, with 19 subways planned in total.

Last year, there were 435 trespassing incidents in the Pune division, leading to 385 deaths. This year, the numbers are still concerning, with 350 incidents resulting in 298 fatalities by October. The rise in train speeds also makes this fencing even more important.

Railway officials are using strong materials for the fencing, and they are also setting up CCTV cameras to monitor the areas. They are serious about keeping the fences intact and will impose legal action against anyone who damages them.

Summary:

  • The fencing project along the Lonavla-Pune-Daund railway is set to improve safety.

  • 92 kilometers of fencing has already been completed.

  • The project includes building subways for safer crossings.

  • Recent statistics show a high number of trespassing incidents and fatalities.

  • CCTV will be installed to monitor the fenced areas effectively.
