This article discusses the impact of the Kudmi rail protest in Jharkhand, which affected train services and caused significant financial loss to the railway.
In Jharkhand, a protest by the Kudmi community affected train services from September 20 to 22. During this time, 54 trains in the Ranchi division were disrupted, leading to major travel problems for passengers.
The railway faced a loss of around 5.4 crore rupees due to the halt in passenger services. This figure does not include additional losses from freight services, which were also impacted by the protest.
To help stranded passengers reach their destinations, the railway arranged for 70 buses. This added an extra financial burden of about 1.5 lakh rupees per day. Many travelers were stressed due to the disruption in train services and the need to travel by bus instead.
About 52,000 passengers were stuck at the Silli station alone. Special air-conditioned buses were deployed to transport passengers to their destinations, ensuring they did not face too much inconvenience.
For those who had to wait longer at the stations, the railway provided vegetarian meals, snacks, and even milk for children. Around 2,500 people received food and water, ensuring their needs were met during the chaos.
