Vande Bharat Express: RCF Kapurthala rolls out its first 16-coach train set, operations to start soon

The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala has achieved a major milestone by rolling out its first Vande Bharat Express train. This development marks the expansion of Vande Bharat production beyond the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. The new 16-coach rake is currently in its final stages of preparation and is expected to join the Indian Railways fleet for commercial operations by the end of March or early April 2026.

What are the key features of the RCF Kapurthala Vande Bharat train?

The newly manufactured coaches come with several technological advancements as confirmed by RCF officials. These include the Kavach train collision avoidance system and a crash-worthy design for enhanced passenger safety. The train is also equipped with modern fire detection systems, CCTV surveillance, and a GPS-based passenger information system to provide a premium travel experience for passengers across the country. These features ensure that the train meets international safety and comfort standards.

How will this rollout affect Indian Railways production capacity?

Previously, Vande Bharat trains were primarily manufactured at ICF Chennai. With RCF Kapurthala now joining the production line, the capacity to build these high-speed trains will see a significant boost. The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Raebareli is also expected to contribute to the production in the future. This combined effort will help Indian Railways expand its high-speed connectivity network across various states more rapidly.
