This article shares updates about the new Vande Bharat trains in India, including their production milestones and future plans.
Recently, the Vande Bharat train, which is India’s advanced train version, reached an important milestone as the 100th coach was built. This train is being designed and manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, and the latest model arrived in Kerala with 20 coaches.
The Vande Bharat trains are now covering major routes across the country. The focus is shifting towards creating more sleeper coaches and the Amrit Bharat train models. By 2025-26, the plan is to launch 200 Vande Bharat trains along with 100 non-AC Amrit Bharat coaches.
The first Vande Bharat train started its journey in February 2019 between Delhi and Varanasi. In South India, it began running from Mysuru to Chennai in November 2022. A special version for Kashmir will begin in 2025, featuring unique functions that allow it to operate in very cold temperatures.
Initially, Vande Bharat trains had 8 or 16 coaches, but now they are expanded to 20. The train’s design has evolved from blue and white to combinations of orange, grey, and black. Unlike traditional trains, Vande Bharat runs without a locomotive engine, using traction motors instead.
Moving forward, the focus will also be on the Amrit Bharat trains, which will not have AC coaches but will include general and sleeper coaches. The manufacturing is happening in Chennai and Kapurthala. The new features in Vande Bharat trains, like automatic doors and camera installations, are aimed at enhancing passenger safety and convenience.
