The Haramain High-Speed Railway has recorded a massive milestone by transporting over 700,000 passengers during the first 20 days of Ramadan. Operating under the management of Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), the network is currently handling an average of 35,000 travelers every single day. This surge highlights the high demand from Umrah pilgrims traveling between the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. With the last ten days of Ramadan approaching, authorities are running the trains at maximum capacity to ensure smooth connectivity across its five main stations.
What Are the Current Operational Updates for Pilgrims?
To handle the increasing rush of Umrah performers in the final ten days of Ramadan, the daily trips have been increased beyond the usual schedule of 50 trips per day. Saudi Arabia Railways officials are focusing on a strict zero-delay departure policy to reduce waiting times at the stations. The current performance is already putting the railway on track to break previous annual Ramadan ridership records. Passengers can easily travel between Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah Sulaymaniyah, King Abdulaziz International Airport, and King Abdullah Economic City without facing road traffic delays.
Important Luggage and Booking Rules for Passengers
Due to the expected 100 percent occupancy rate in the coming days, authorities have made advance ticket booking mandatory through the official HHR website or mobile application. Passengers are requested to reach their designated stations at least 20 to 30 minutes before departure for security and boarding procedures. Officials have also enforced strict luggage rules for all travelers to maintain order during the peak rush hours.
- Standard Baggage: Each passenger is allowed one large suitcase weighing up to 25kg and one small hand-carry bag.
- Zamzam Water Limit: Only one 5-liter bottle is permitted per traveler, which may require separate cargo arrangements depending on the destination.
- Banned Items: Sharp objects and hazardous materials are strictly prohibited during the intensified Ramadan security checks.
