What are the new Panoramic Vistadome coaches
The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala is manufacturing 30 modernised coaches for this route. These coaches have large glass windows that reach the ceiling, allowing passengers to see the Himalayan views clearly. So far, 13 coaches have reached Kalka, and 18 more are being made. Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bitu stated that the government is spending Rs 2,716 crore to improve railway connectivity in Himachal Pradesh.
What is the DHMU train and its benefits
The DHMU is India’s first self-propelled narrow-gauge train developed by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai. It has engines at both ends, so it does not need a separate locomotive. Recent trials showed that a three-coach set can reach Shimla in about six hours. This system is expected to provide a smoother and faster journey compared to old trains.
