Why do trains run only two days a year?
The Northern Railway operates special Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains from Firozpur Cantt to Husainiwala on two specific dates. The first is March 23 to mark the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. The second is during the Baisakhi festival. These trains help visitors reach the National Martyrs Memorial located 1.5 km from the station to pay their respects.
What is the history of this station?
Established in 1885, this station was once known as the Gateway to Lahore, connecting Ferozepur with Kasur and Peshawar. However, the Kaiser-e-Hind Rail-cum-Road Bridge over the Sutlej River was destroyed during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. Since the bridge was not rebuilt, Husainiwala became the end of the Northern Railway track.
Current status and facilities
For most of the year, the station remains inactive due to low passenger demand in the border area. The Firozpur rail division started work in 2019 to improve the station. The updates include building a new platform, ticket counters, benches, toilets, and drinking water facilities. A ticket for the special train usually costs ₹10.
