Rail operations on the busy Barauni-Katihar section faced significant disruptions recently due to two separate incidents involving major trains. Passengers traveling on the Delhi-Katihar Humsafar Express and the Patna-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express experienced delays and unexpected halts. Railway officials and technical teams responded quickly to resolve the issues and ensure safety on the tracks.
What caused the delay for Humsafar Express?
The Delhi-Katihar Humsafar Express (Train No. 15706) was delayed after hitting a stray cow between Kharik and Naugachia stations. The impact was severe enough that the animal’s body got stuck in the engine’s cattle guard. The train pilot had to make an emergency stop to assess the situation. This incident caused panic among some passengers due to the sudden braking. Railway staff worked to clear the obstruction from the engine before the train could proceed. Consequently, the Saharsa-Sealdah Hate Bazare Express and another special train trailing behind were also halted at previous stations.
Why was Vande Bharat Express stopped near Kataria?
In a separate safety alert, the Patna-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22234) was stopped for about eight minutes near Kataria station. The loco pilot heard a loud, abnormal noise near railway pole number 58/3 and immediately halted the train. Upon inspection by GRP and RPF officials, it was found that the fishplates on the track were loose. Maintenance teams arrived at the spot and tightened the plates. The train was allowed to move only after the track was declared safe.
