Passengers traveling through the North Eastern Railway zone will no longer have to worry about finding their coach at the last minute. General Manager Uday Borwankar has directed the integration of the Coach Guidance System with the National Train Enquiry System. This new setup ensures that coach positions are updated automatically 30 minutes before the train reaches the platform.

How will the new coach guidance system work?
The manual feeding of coach data into the display system often led to errors and delays in updating information. Under the new system, the Coach Guidance System is directly linked with the National Train Enquiry System database. This automation allows the digital boards on platforms to show the exact location of every coach half an hour before arrival. Currently, the system is operational on platform number 1 of Gorakhpur Junction as a pilot project.
What are the main advantages of this update?
This initiative aims to solve the problem of incorrect or late displays that usually happened just 5 to 10 minutes before a train arrived. By providing accurate data 30 minutes in advance, the railway administration expects to reduce platform crowding and passenger confusion. The system will be expanded to all major stations under the three divisions of North Eastern Railway.
- Integration with National Train Enquiry System for real-time updates
- Coach location visible 30 minutes before train arrival
- Removal of manual data entry to stop display errors
- Better passenger management on platforms at Gorakhpur Junction
