Ganga Bridge Repair: 42-day mega block in Unnao to increase train speed to 110 kmph

Railway authorities have initiated a massive renovation project on the Ganga Bridge in Unnao to improve train speeds and track safety on the busy Kanpur-Lucknow route. DRM Sunil Kumar Verma and GM Uday Borwankar recently inspected the progress of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the ongoing bridge repairs. A 42-day mega block is currently in effect to facilitate the replacement of old sleepers with modern steel H-beams and iron sheets.

How is the 42-day mega block impacting train operations?

The repair work on the downline of the Ganga Railway Bridge began on April 2, 2026, and will continue until May 13, 2026. This extensive maintenance is necessary to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge and allow for faster train movements in the future. Due to this work, the railway department has made several adjustments to the regular schedule to avoid congestion near the construction site.

• 17 passenger trains have been cancelled for the duration of the block.
• 27 trains are being diverted through alternate routes to maintain connectivity.
• 6 trains are partially affected, with shortened routes or changed timings.
• Additional buses are being operated by the transport corporation between Kanpur and Lucknow for passengers.

Currently, trains are restricted to a speed of 30 kmph while crossing the Ganga Bridge, but after the repairs, they will be able to run at 110 kmph.
