Which new routes and stations are coming up?
The approved expansion will extend existing metro lines to cover key areas in Central, South, and Old Delhi. The largest section is a 9.9 km underground stretch connecting RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha. This specific route is important as it will pass through the Central Vista area, providing direct connectivity to landmarks like India Gate, Kartavya Bhawan, and the High Court.
Another vital link will connect Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal-1, making travel easier for flyers. The third corridor will strengthen connectivity in South East Delhi between Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj.
| Corridor Name | Length | Key Stations |
|---|---|---|
| RK Ashram – Indraprastha | 9.9 km (Underground) | Central Secretariat, India Gate, Indraprastha |
| Aerocity – Terminal 1 | 2.2 km (Underground) | IGI Airport Terminal-1 |
| Tughlakabad – Kalindi Kunj | 3.9 km (Elevated) | Kalindi Kunj, Madanpur Khadar |
When will the project be completed?
The government has set a target to complete these new lines by 2028. The Delhi Government will contribute ₹2,940.46 crore towards the total cost. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has already started working on the ground level, initiating the tender process for the Central Vista underground corridor on February 10, 2026.
Once these extensions are operational, the Magenta Line will become the longest corridor in the entire Delhi Metro network, spanning roughly 89 km. This expansion aims to seamlessy connect North and West Delhi with the central parts of the city.
