The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has shared a significant update regarding the Phase V expansion as of February 7, 2026. A new 9.9 km long underground corridor will now connect Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha. This project is an extension of the existing Magenta Line and is designed to ease mobility in the busy Central Delhi area. Officials released a video highlighting how this new route will save travel time for daily commuters.
Which stations are included in the new corridor?
This section of the Magenta Line will feature nine new stations. The entire stretch is underground to avoid traffic disruption on the surface. It connects major government buildings, courts, and tourist spots directly to the metro network. The list of stations includes:
- Ramakrishna Ashram Marg (Interchange with Blue Line)
- Shivaji Stadium (Interchange with Airport Express)
- Central Secretariat (Interchange with Yellow & Violet Lines)
- Kartavya Bhawan
- India Gate
- War Memorial–High Court
- Baroda House
- Bharat Mandapam (Pragati Maidan)
- Indraprastha (Interchange with Blue Line)
What are the costs and new features?
The estimated cost for this Phase V (A) package is ₹12,014.91 crore. This funding is shared between the Central Government, the Delhi Government, and international loans. The DMRC is using advanced technology for this line. The trains will operate with Unattended Train Operations (UTO), which means they are driverless. For passenger safety, full-height Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) will be installed at all nine stations.
Recent updates on station names and construction
In another recent development, the DMRC officially renamed the Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 Metro station to “Shree Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar” on February 7. Additionally, the corporation is now using an AI-powered system with drones to monitor construction work in real-time. This technology helps in tracking progress and ensuring safety standards during the building of these underground tunnels.
