Increased Metro Frequency for Festival Season

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced plans to increase the frequency of metro trains in response to the rising crowd levels and pollution during the festival season. The management has encouraged people to utilize the metro system as a means to avoid road congestion and reduce air pollution. Anuj Dayal, the chief spokesperson for DMRC, highlighted that pollution levels in the capital have begun to rise, prompting the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Implementation of GRAP Phases

As pollution intensifies, the next phase of GRAP restrictions will be enforced. During the second phase, which operates from Monday to Friday, the number of trips on each metro line will be increased by 40. This adjustment is aimed at accommodating the anticipated surge in metro usage during the festival period while addressing the environmental concerns associated with heightened pollution.

Further Enhancements in Service

Following the activation of the third phase of GRAP, the DMRC plans to further enhance service by adding an additional 20 trips on each metro line. This strategic move is designed to facilitate longer-distance travel for commuters while minimizing the impact of pollution. The DMRC’s efforts reflect a commitment to providing efficient public transport options during a critical time for the city.
