Delhi residents will finally witness the completion of the city’s first Ring Metro this weekend. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the final 12.3-km section between Majlis Park and Maujpur-Babarpur on Sunday, March 8, 2026. This new addition connects the two ends of the Pink Line, making it a complete circular loop of 71.56 km. The official event will take place at DDA Utsav Sthal-3, marking a major milestone for public transport in the capital.

Which areas will the new section cover?
The new corridor is 12.3 kilometers long and features 10 stations, out of which eight are elevated. This section is vital for residents of North East Delhi, as it brings them onto the main metro map. With this opening, the Pink Line creates a full circle around Delhi, allowing passengers to travel across the city without needing to change multiple lines. The project also includes engineering feats like a double-decker viaduct and the fifth metro bridge over the Yamuna river.
What are the ticket prices and discounts?
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has kept the fare structure commuter-friendly. The minimum fare for a short trip (0–2 km) is ₹11, while the maximum fare for distances above 32 km is ₹64. Passengers using Smart Cards get a 10% discount on every trip. An extra 10% discount applies if you travel during off-peak hours, which are before 8 AM, between 12 PM and 5 PM, and after 9 PM. On Sundays and national holidays, the fares are lower, ranging from ₹11 to ₹54.
What are the future plans for Delhi Metro?
Alongside the inauguration of the Ring Metro, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three new corridors under Delhi Metro Phase-V (A). Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that these expansions are part of the vision for a developed Delhi, aiming to cut down road congestion and pollution significantly. The total investment for these projects involves funding from both the Central and Delhi governments, along with external loans.
