Dhanbad Rail Division is rolling out a comprehensive master plan to transform Dhanbad Railway Station and its surrounding areas. This initiative aims to tackle the long-standing issues of heavy traffic congestion near the station and severe waterlogging at the Gaya Pul underpass. With a record revenue of 25,000 crore in the 2025-26 financial year, the division is now focusing on upgrading passenger amenities and infrastructure through the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Modern Infrastructure and Facilities Under Amrit Bharat Scheme
The redevelopment of Dhanbad Junction is set to occur in two distinct phases. In the first phase, the southern end of the station will see significant upgrades, followed by a complete transformation of the main entrance in the second phase. Plans include the construction of a seven-story station building and two additional platforms, bringing the total count to ten. To facilitate smooth passenger movement, two new foot overbridges, each 12 meters wide, will be installed.
A dedicated budget of 495 crore has been allocated specifically for these station facilities. Additionally, the division has received a portion of the 7536 crore railway budget earmarked for Jharkhand to modernize signaling systems and implement the Kavach safety technology. Two new rail lines will also be added to improve freight movement and reduce congestion on existing tracks.
New Traffic Plan and Drainage System Implementation
The Road Construction Department has finalized the design for a Sump drainage system to prevent water accumulation at the Gaya Pul underpass. This structure will be built approximately 1 to 1.5 feet below the surface to ensure efficient water flow. Furthermore, a new drain connecting the station to the underpass is being planned to stop seepage and road flooding during the monsoon season.
