A new two-lane railway overbridge will be constructed near Tarethia Railway Station, aimed at alleviating persistent traffic congestion. This project, valued at ₹157 crore, directly addresses the growing traffic issues between South City and Rajnikhand.

What is the new railway overbridge project?
The Lucknow New Rail Overbridge, specifically designed for the South City-Rajnikhand corridor, is a 2-lane infrastructure initiative. Approved by the Uttar Pradesh government, the bridge will be built near Tarethia Railway Station. Its primary goal is to reduce the heavy traffic flow that has long plagued Lucknow’s southern regions.
How will this overbridge benefit commuters?
This 157 crore project is expected to significantly ease traffic pressure on Raebareli Road. Residents of areas such as PGI, Telibagh, South City, Rajnikhand, Eldeco-2, and Omax City will experience relief from daily jams. The construction of this 833-meter-long overbridge marks a step towards developing robust and modern infrastructure in the state, as highlighted by Sarojininagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh.
When was the project approved and who was involved?
The Uttar Pradesh government officially approved the construction of this railway overbridge on March 28, 2026. The project, which had been a long-standing demand from locals including Col. Satyendra Singh, received crucial support from Sarojininagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for its sanction. Prior to this, in October 2024, the Public Works Department (PWD) conducted soil sample collection for the construction.
