How will the QR code entry system function at the station
The railway administration will implement a QR code-based entry management system to regulate passenger flow at New Delhi Railway Station. This system is designed to stop unauthorized entry by ensuring that only individuals with a valid ticket can pass through the gates. It will help the authorities manage crowds during busy periods like the festival rush. The pilot phase for this technology is scheduled to begin before Diwali and Chhath festivals to test its effectiveness in handling large volumes of travelers. This system will help in the better segregation of reserved and unreserved passengers similar to how modern metro stations operate.
Key technical details of the NDLS redevelopment project
The redevelopment includes significant infrastructure and security upgrades to modernize the station environment. A joint venture involving DEC Infrastructure and HG Infra Engineering is executing the project with an estimated cost of 2,196 crore rupees. The station will feature two new buildings near platforms 1 and 16 to accommodate the growing number of daily commuters. Additionally, a new identification system with color-coded jackets will be introduced for all staff members to improve accountability and passenger trust.
