Indian Railways has officially started the upgradation work on the Panipat-Rohtak-Jind railway line as of April 9, 2026. This project aims to modernize the existing infrastructure and significantly boost the speed of trains running on these routes. The initiative is expected to reduce travel time and improve safety for thousands of daily passengers in the Haryana region.
Key features of the Panipat-Rohtak-Jind rail upgrade
- The project includes doubling the 71-kilometer Rohtak-Panipat line with a sanctioned budget of 714 crore rupees.
- Train speeds are planned to increase from the current 60-75 kmph to a range of 100-120 kmph.
- Modern signaling systems and improved track safety measures are being installed at level crossings.
- Approximately 97 percent of the girder placement for the elevated section and doubling is already complete.
When will the higher speed trains start operating
According to Northern Railway officials, the speed increase will happen in a phased manner. Currently, the track capacity and safety standards are being strengthened through rigorous testing. Ramesh Kumar, the Superintendent of Panipat Railway Station, mentioned that trials are ongoing to inspect track quality and train stability. The final decision to run trains at 120 kmph will be taken by the Delhi Division once all safety certifications are obtained.
