Incident Overview

A case of stone pelting occurred in a train coach at Harpalpur station in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, during a peak time when a large crowd of devotees was gathering for Mauni Amavasya. The incident took place when the train, arriving from Jhansi, had its gates locked, preventing passengers from disembarking. Escalation of Events

As the passengers inside the train kept the gates locked, the crowd waiting on the platform became increasingly agitated. Upon the eventual opening of the gates, some individuals from the crowd threw stones at the train, resulting in broken glass in the coach. This act of vandalism led to panic and a stampede among the passengers inside the train, further complicating the situation.

Police Response

The Harpalpur police, led by station in-charge Pushpak Sharma, responded to the incident shortly after it occurred around 2 PM. Once notified, the police team arrived at the scene, managed to calm the crowd, and facilitated the departure of the train. Manoj Singh, the Public Relations Officer of the Railway Division in Jhansi, reported that the incident stemmed from frustrations among passengers eager to reach Prayagraj, with both women and men demanding the opening of the train gates.
