Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched three major initiatives on March 23, 2026, to strengthen India’s creative or orange economy. These initiatives were announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to help the media, digital, and broadcasting sectors. The government aims to make technology more affordable and accessible for every citizen through these new projects and digital tools.
Key features of the National AI Skilling and MyWAVES platform
The National AI Skilling Initiative is a partnership with Google and YouTube that will provide free training to 15,000 youth in the creative sector. This program will be managed by the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies and will focus on animation, gaming, and media technology from March to December 2026. Additionally, MyWAVES has been introduced as a citizen creator platform on WAVES OTT. This platform allows users to create and share content in various formats and languages, helping to grow the digital ecosystem in India.
Updates to DD Free Dish and television sets
The government is also rolling out advanced Electronic Programme Guides and built-in satellite tuners for television sets. This change will allow citizens to access DD Free Dish services without needing a separate set-top box. This initiative is designed to simplify the viewing experience and lower the cost of entertainment, especially for people living in remote areas of the country. These updates align with the vision of making technology useful for the common man.
