A passenger named Khushbu Kumari gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, while traveling on the South Bihar Express. The incident occurred in coach S-1 as the train was moving from Raipur towards Patna. The woman was traveling alone with her two small children when she experienced sudden labor pains near Jasidih station. Railway staff and medical teams provided immediate assistance upon arrival at Jhajha station in Jamui district.
How did the railway medical team assist during the emergency?
After co-passengers alerted the TTE about the medical emergency, the information was passed to the RPF and the Jhajha Railway Health Unit. A team led by Dr. Shadab Ahmed reached the platform before the train arrived at 7:11 AM. Female passengers in the coach assisted the mother initially, and the railway medical staff took over once the train reached the station. The South Bihar Express remained at the station for about 45 minutes to manage the situation safely.
Details of the medical operation and current health status
Following the birth, the mother and the newborn were moved to the Referral Hospital in Jhajha using an ambulance service. This assistance was part of the RPF “Operation Sewa” initiative which provides free emergency aid to passengers. According to hospital reports on February 12, both the mother and child are in stable condition. Railway officials have successfully contacted the woman’s husband, Amit Lohani, to inform the family about the delivery and their current location.
