What’s inside:

This article shares news about a collaboration between CII and RDSO to improve the Indian railways through innovation and technology.

Recently in Lucknow, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) announced that it will work together with the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) to enhance the railway sector. This partnership aims to bring new technologies and ideas to make train travel safer and easier.

During an event at RDSO, the Director General mentioned that this organization has been focusing on railway technology since 1957. They are looking into innovations that can take train speeds from 75 km/h to 200 km/h and increase passenger capacity in coaches from 500-700 to 2,000.

These improvements will benefit passengers by making train journeys faster and accommodating more people. Also, the freight capacity has been boosted from 150 tons per axle to 250 tons per axle, which is a significant upgrade for transporting goods.

The RDSO is also working on a homegrown safety system called the ‘Kavach’ which will significantly improve railway safety. In the next few years, new trains like the Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat are set to debut, enhancing the railway experience further.

Moreover, plans are underway to expand the metro rail network in Uttar Pradesh, adding 1,500 kilometers. This includes over 200 kilometers in Lucknow and substantial expansions in Kanpur and Agra, promising a brighter future for public transport in the region.

Summary:

  • CII partners with RDSO to innovate in the railway sector.

  • Train speeds are set to increase significantly.

  • Passenger and freight capacities will see major upgrades.

  • A new safety system called ‘Kavach’ is being developed.

  • Metro rail expansion plans in Uttar Pradesh are in progress.
