Indian Railways has introduced an automatic process for allocating lower berths to senior citizens and women over 45 years old while booking tickets.
The lower berths are reserved in different classes – 6-7 in sleeper class, 4-5 in 3AC, and 3-4 in 2AC specifically for senior citizens, women over 45, and pregnant women.
For differently-abled passengers and their attendants, special reservation facilities are available in all mail/express, Rajdhani, and Shatabdi trains.
New and upgraded coaches are being equipped with wider doors, spacious berths, wheelchair spaces, larger compartments, grab rails, and accessible toilets.
Special provisions like integrated Braille signs will be provided in Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat trains to cater to the needs of differently-abled passengers.
