Under the “Senior Citizen Ticket Concession Scheme 2025,” men aged 60 and above will receive a 40% discount on ticket prices. Women aged 58 and older will be eligible for a 50% discount. This initiative aims to help senior citizens travel comfortably after the challenges they faced during the pandemic.

This discount applies to all reserved classes, including sleeper, second AC, third AC, and chair car, specifically on long-distance and express trains. In addition, certain social welfare trains, like pilgrimage specials, can offer discounts of up to 80% as they are fully funded by the government.

To avail of these discounts, senior citizens must provide proof of age, such as an Aadhaar card or any government-issued ID, when booking tickets. The discount is available for both online bookings through the IRCTC website and at railway station counters but does not apply to Tatkal tickets or premium trains like Vande Bharat.

Senior citizens can now look forward to more affordable travel options. Those eligible should ensure they have the necessary ID while booking and keep in mind that the scheme officially starts in June 2025.

Summary:

  • New discounts for senior citizens on train tickets starting June 1, 2025.

  • Men aged 60+ will get 40% off, women aged 58+ will get 50% off.

  • Discounts apply to reserved classes and long-distance trains.

  • Proof of age is required for booking tickets.

  • Discounts do not apply to Tatkal or premium trains.
