Launch of New Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

The Indian Railways is preparing to launch the third variant of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train in January 2025, following the success of the Vande Bharat Express. This new model aims to enhance the travel experience by covering longer distances and facilitating overnight journeys. The train is manufactured by BEML, with its prototype unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in September 2024, signaling a significant step in modernizing rail travel in India.

Route and Operational Details

The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to run between New Delhi and Srinagar, with plans for the Jammu and Kashmir region to introduce this service. The train will be maintained and operated by the Northern Railway (NR) zone. A senior railway official stated that the service will connect the national capital with the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, with potential future extensions to Baramulla.

Travel Specifications

Covering over 800 kilometers, the New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper train is designed to complete the journey in less than 13 hours. It is projected to depart at 19:00 hrs and arrive in Srinagar at 08:00 hrs, with stops at major stations including Ambala Cantt Junction, Ludhiana Junction, and Jammu Tawai, among others. Passengers will have three accommodation options: AC 3 Tier (3A), AC 2 Tier (2A), and AC First Class (1A), with ticket prices expected to be around Rs 2000 for 3A, Rs 2500 for 2A, and Rs 3000 for 1A.
