What’s inside:

This article discusses new changes in Indian Railways regarding ticketing and seat allocations.

Railways is making travel more comfortable for passengers by updating its ticketing rules. Recently, they announced that some trains will no longer have RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) seats. This means passengers won’t have to travel on half seats anymore.

Specifically, RAC tickets for the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains have been completely removed. According to the new rules, only confirmed tickets will be issued for these trains, and there will be no provision for RAC or waiting list tickets.

As per the latest guidelines, for the Sleeper class, the minimum fare will now be for a journey of 200 km, starting at ₹149. For second class, the minimum fare is set at ₹36 for a trip of 50 km. Extra charges for reservation and superfast services will apply.

Even if a passenger travels only for 100 km, they must still pay the fare for 200 km in Sleeper class. Additionally, now there will be three specific quotas for women, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals in Sleeper class.

The Railways has introduced lower berth facilities for senior citizens and those traveling with children. The system aims to allocate lower berths to men above 60 years and women above 45 years based on availability.

Summary:

  • RAC seating has been removed for Vande Bharat Sleeper trains.

  • Only confirmed tickets will be available for these trains.

  • New minimum fare rules have been set for Sleeper and second class.

  • Specific quotas for women, seniors, and differently-abled passengers are introduced.

  • Lower berths for senior citizens and children will be prioritized.
