What’s inside:

The survey for the new railway lines from Chhapra Court to Katihar is delayed, with most of the work still pending.

In Muzaffarpur, the survey for the third and fourth railway lines from Chhapra Court to Katihar has not been completed even after 20 months. The survey work is only 30% finished, and the deadline for the survey team from Delhi ends today.

The railway authorities have not renewed the license of the agency conducting the survey, which means the work could face further delays. The Chief Administrative Officer submitted a report about this situation, indicating that the railway lines need to be laid from Chhapra Court through Muzaffarpur and Barauni to Katihar.

The Delhi-based agency was given the task of carrying out the final land survey, starting on March 6, 2024, with a completion date set for November 13, 2025. The railway is investing around seven crore rupees in this survey, which covers nearly 450 km.

Currently, more than two dozen freight trains pass through the Muzaffarpur route daily, and this number can sometimes go up to thirty. There are also 85 regular trains operating, including the Rajdhani and two Vande Bharat Express trains.

As the survey deadline passes, it is clear that the project will not start on time. Without the new lines, the existing overloading issues for both cargo and passenger services will continue.

Summary:

  • The railway survey from Chhapra Court to Katihar is delayed.

  • Only 30% of the survey work is complete after 20 months.

  • The agency’s license has not been renewed, causing further delays.

  • Over 25 freight trains and 85 regular trains use the route daily.

  • The project is unlikely to start on time, impacting transportation.
