The Ministry of Railways has set a major target to operate 800 pairs of Vande Bharat trains by the year 2030. To prepare for this massive expansion, a special two-week training program started on Monday at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna. This initiative focuses on safety and technical skills for senior railway officers to handle advanced train systems.

What are the Targets and Future Plans for Vande Bharat?
Experts at the event confirmed the official goal to replace older trains with 800 operational Vande Bharat pairs in the next four years. Looking further ahead, the long-term vision includes expanding to 4,500 trainsets by 2047 under the railway modernization plan. Currently, around 164 Vande Bharat services are running across the country. The manufacturing cost for these trains ranges from ₹115 crore to ₹150 crore depending on the version and safety features.
What Will Officers Learn at the IIT Patna Workshop?
The workshop is organized by IRIMEE Jamalpur and IIT Patna to build a highly skilled workforce. Since Monday, February 9, 25 senior officers have been receiving training from technical experts. The program, inaugurated by Prof. T.N. Singh and Animesh Kumar Sinha, focuses on the following key areas:
- High-voltage electrical systems and computerized braking.
- Implementation of Kavach 4.0 collision avoidance technology.
- Maintenance rules for Vande Bharat and Namo Bharat trains.
- International safety standards and risk management.
