The Solapur Division of Central Railway is gearing up for a massive technological transformation. Indian Railways has officially sanctioned a ₹209 crore project to install modern Electronic Interlocking (EI) systems across seven vital stations in Maharashtra.

Modernizing the HDN 7 Route

This significant investment is focused on the High Density Network (HDN) 7 route, aiming to replace aging infrastructure with state-of-the-art technology. By moving away from traditional relay-based systems, the railways are adopting computer-based control for points and signals, which promises a much more reliable operational environment.

The implementation of Electronic Interlocking offers several key advantages:

  • Faster Fault Detection: Identifying technical issues quickly to minimize delays.
  • Simplified Maintenance: Reducing the complexity of upkeep for technical staff.
  • Enhanced Efficiency: Allowing for smoother and more streamlined train movements.

Stations Set for Transformation

The following seven stations within the Solapur Division are slated to receive these upgrades:

  • Mohol
  • Mundhewadi
  • Bale
  • Solapur
  • Hotgi Junction-Hotgi A Cabin
  • Shahabad
  • Wadi Junction

Strengthening Safety with Kavach

Beyond operational efficiency, this project is a cornerstone of the Ministry of Railways' commitment to passenger safety. The new signaling infrastructure is specifically designed to support the rollout of Kavach, India's homegrown Automatic Train Protection system.

Kavach acts as a critical safety net by automatically applying brakes if a train attempts to overshoot a signal, drastically reducing the risk of accidents. This modernization effort complements existing technologies like Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) and Central Traffic Control (CTC), marking a major leap forward in the division's signaling capabilities.
