₹736 Crore Mega Boost: Indian Railways Approves 4 Major Safety & Infrastructure Projects!
Indian Railways is gearing up for a massive technological and structural overhaul. The Ministry has sanctioned four significant infrastructure and safety projects across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat, with a total investment of approximately ₹736 crore.
Kavach 4.0: Strengthening Safety in Lucknow Division
The most substantial portion of this funding is dedicated to Kavach 4.0, India's indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system. This initiative targets 607.7 route kilometres within the Lucknow Division of the North Eastern Railway at a cost of ₹252 crore.
Kavach 4.0 is a critical safety layer designed to:
- Monitor real-time train movements.
- Issue immediate warnings to locomotive pilots.
- Trigger automatic braking if a signal is passed at danger.
It is important to note that this is a system approval rather than a completed installation. This new project represents about 23 percent of the 2,633 route kilometres where Kavach 4.0 was commissioned as of July 31, 2026. To become fully operational, the project requires the complete integration of trackside tags, station equipment, and locomotive fitments.
Modernising Signalling in Solapur Division
To enhance operational precision and prevent conflicting train movements, ₹209 crore has been directed toward electronic interlocking in the Solapur Division of Central Railway. This advanced system will replace conventional relay-based arrangements with sophisticated computerised logic
